Welcome to the Nueva Ecija Journal's 219th issue.

I'm scared -- there are confirmed cases of Influenza A(H1N1) in Jaen.

Classes start on June 15 and I hold mine in windowless airconditioned rooms.

Should I conduct my classes while wearing a face mask, or require students to do the same? Wear gloves while touching students' reports and exams? Maybe spray chlorine solution or Lysol around the room, especially on door handles and arms of chairs, every so often? Or walk around with a thermometer stuck in my mouth?

I'm starting to feel paranoid.  I felt that way when I went to Waltermart yesterday, remembering that the mall is patronized not only by my citymates but also by residents of neighboring towns -- including Jaen. I felt the same way for the same reason when I had to buy something from the crowded city public market.

Tomorrow, on the way to school, I wonder how I will cope when I have to sit in the same jeepney or on the same bus with lots of other people, anyone of whom can be a suspected A(HaN1) carrier...

May God spare all of us from this latest curse!
