| During the the commemorative
program for the 109th anniversary of "Unang Sigaw ng Nueva Ecija" at the
Nueva Ecija Convention Center in Palayan City on September 2, 2005, President
Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo presented the Tanging Alay sa Tanging Anak ng
Nueva Ecija (TATANG)
Awards
to eleven Novo Ecijanos who have
made significant contributions to their chosen professions and helped uplift
and bring prestige to the province.
Among the awardees was
the Nueva Ecija Journal publisher/editor, Ramon R. Valmonte, who was cited
for his three decades of work as radio broadcaster and Internet
journalist.

The other awardees were
Fernando L. Gabuyo, Jr. of San Jose City for agriculture; Dr. Felomino
V. Mamuad, Sr. of Licab, science and technology; Dr. Pedro O. San Vicente
of Talavera, education; Maria F. Bagasao, social work; Sergio Ortiz-Luis,
Jr. of Cabiao, trade and industry; Chief Supt. Servando M. Hizon of Quezon,
police affairs; Sofia S. Linsangan of Guimba, culture and arts; Dr. Felipe
A. Estrella, Jr. of Lupao, medicine; Oscar I. Briones of Cabanatuan
City, sports; and Mayor Gloria C. Congco of Cabiao, public service.
Plaques of appreciation
were also given to Prof. Jaime M. Quilantang and Dr. Quirino D. dela Cruz
of the Nueva Ecija Fruits and Vegetables Seed Center at Central Luzon State
University; Carol Foundation, Dr. Edgardo T. Caparas and Dr. Ramonito R.
Lee for conducting medical missions that benefited the underprivileged
in the province; and posthumous awards to National Artist Felipe P. de
Leon and Judge Lauro Sandoval.
